MD 500E

It is a light American observation helicopter that was built for the U.S. Army and immediately outperformed its competitors, which were Bell Helicopter and Hiller Aircraft. Originally produced by Hughes Helicopters as the Hughes 500, the first prototype was produced in 1963 as the OH-6 Cayuse. Since 1967, when it went into series production several variants have been produced, ranging from four-bladed to five-bladed ones.

In 1984, Hughes Helicopters was purchased by McDonnell Douglas and together they formed a new company, McDonnell Douglas (MD) Helicopter Systems, later referred to as MD Helicopters.

The 500 Series' lower designs feature shock-absorbing chassis dampers for improved comfort, a powerful turbine engine mounted at a 45-degree angle towards the rear of the cab, an under-floor fuel tank and a battery in the front of the cab. The engine exhaust outlet is located at the end of the cabin under the tail section. It has a main 5-bladed rotor system with a short diameter and a short tail, giving it amazing maneuverability.

It is a truly multi-purpose helicopter, in the fleet of HELI CZECH s.r.o. it serves mainly for training advanced emergency procedures, and in this it probably has no competition in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. It is therefore widely used in the world for training military pilots.
